Call It! App: a better understanding of the workplace

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and at Screen Manchester we have been introducing you to some of the amazing people and organisations with whom we work and who focus on issues around mental health and making positive changes happen in the workplace.

Today we focus on the Call It! App, whose team contributed brilliantly to one of our Screen Alliance North Connected Communities events. This was supported by BFI with National Lottery Funding and so many important issues were discussed by a panel of Industry professionals and mental health experts.

So what does Call It! App do? A short answer might be that it makes us think and to ask questions about where we work and how we work. It challenges and makes change through asking:

What if you could ask every person on every production: how were you treated at work today?

This brilliant new resource has achieved this through creating an anonymous and psychologically safe space. Call It! App helps productions better understand workplace culture through data collection, while helping cast and crew by signposting discreet support services, including mental health support.

Creating safer and fairer places of work for everyone working in film and TV can improve the quality of our creative output, our productivity and our mental health. Call It! App is taking positive steps towards making this a reality.

The App is a sign-posting tool and provides a gateway through which productions can aggregate mental health support available through various options in the industry.
