Screen Alliance North, the northern screen industry BFI Skills Cluster, made up of Liverpool Film Office, North East Screen, Screen Manchester and Screen Yorkshire, today announced a renewed partnership with Picture Zero, continued sponsorship from Sunbelt Rentals UK and a new name for its sustainability working group.
The newly titled Northern Screen Sustainability Network is currently made up of members representing a cross section of industry professionals in the North of England who can help improve sustainable practices.
Launched in May 2025, facilitated by Picture Zero on behalf of Screen Alliance North, the group has so far produced resources to support productions including information on producing an environmental policy, checklists for productions and production companies and direct input into Screen Alliance North’s Sustainability Managers Training programme.
Through regular catch ups the Northern Screen Sustainability Network is a peer to peer space for those leading green practices across northern productions. Facilitated by Picture Zero and funded through BFI National Lottery and sponsorship for the second year from Sunbelt Rentals, the group brings together professionals who are implementing environmental strategies and achieving sustainability accreditations. Together, they share best practice, collaborate on challenges, and drive sector wide change.
Penny Hall, Skills Cluster Partnership Lead at Screen Alliance North said; “So far the Northern Screen Sustainability Network has been very effective and we are currently looking for new members to widen reach and help embed sustainable practices further across the screen industry in the North. You must be northern based, senior crew or leader in a production team or production company. We’d welcome location and sustainability specialists.”
The group will meet quarterly online, with an additional proposed in-person event to be organised, which will bring together the network with suppliers, facilities and industry representatives across the north. The first year of the working group went really well and I know the momentum is only going to build in year two.”
