At Screen Manchester we have had much to celebrate as our first Connected Campus Cohort has graduated after nine months of set and studio tours and insightful seminars hosted by a range of Industry professionals covering a spectrum of disciplines from pre to post production and everything in between.
This event which was hosted at Space Studios Manchester by Elli Metcalfe, Screen Manchester’s Crew and Facilities Manager and Production Coordinator Joseph Morris celebrated the achievements of the students from Warrington & Vale Royal College and Oldham Sixth Form College who have – since autumn 2024 – enjoyed a series of masterclasses and set and facility tours presented by some of the best in our business.
Just some of those who have given of their time and expertise include Steve Rawling on Storytelling and Diva Rodriguez on Roles On A Production. Jam Williams Thomas and representatives from Provision Hire and ITV Academy gave talks and demonstrations on camera, lighting and sound whilst Post Production Expertise came from Picture Shop, a facility the cohort enjoyed visiting. Locations expertise was provided by Emma Taylor.
The afternoon included premier screenings of short films made by the students and concluded with a presentation by two former Screen Manchester trainees Oli Mortimer and Carla Law who, after traineeships on Waterloo Road have continued to work consistently across a series of productions. They enjoyed chatting with the cohort afterwards during an enjoyable networking session which brought the afternoon’s events to a close.
Connected Campus which is of course supported by Screen Alliance North and BFI with National Lottery Funding has proven to be extremely popular connecting students directly to craft in a way other training courses don’t.
This is hot off the press and more news will follow.
