New Training Scheme with BBC’s Children & Education and Brilliant Trees Media

Applications have now closed! Thank you to all who have applied.
Applications will now be reviewed and those who are successfully selected to continue on to the Skills Training Day on Friday 3rd May will be contacted this week.

Brilliant Trees Media, Screen Manchester, and BBC Children’s & Education are offering an exciting and unique opportunity to become involved in bringing an exciting new TV series to life.

With the support of BBC Children’s & Education and Screen Alliance North with BFI National Lottery funding the Brilliant Trees team is looking for applicants to join the production and to work alongside an experienced team of puppeteers.

The ideal applicants will be enthusiastic about breathing life into puppets and infusing them with personality and emotion. They should also be keen to develop acting skills to convey different emotions through the movements and expressions of the puppet whose gestures and movements they will control.

A talent for mimicry and articulating words clearly through syncing the movement of the puppet’s mouth with spoken dialogue or songs is another quality the team will be looking to find at a Skills Training Day on May 3rd 2024.

Applicants for the initial Skills Training Day should be over 18 years old and currently live in Manchester. We are committed to equality of opportunity and welcome applications from individuals, regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, socio-economic background, religion and/or belief.

The Skills Training Day, which you  must be able to attend will be led by a team of highly experienced mentors. The team will be looking for basic skills, good comedy timing and enthusiasm for the craft.

As there are only a limited number of places available, enthusiasm, passion and a willingness to learn will be key, so any kind of evidence to demonstrate a passion for puppetry in your application would be great to see! This could be as simple as a short video made on a phone showing what you can already do with puppets.

To apply for this opportunity candidates will need to be:

  • 18 years of age and over
  • Passionate, hard-working, reliable, and responsible
  • Available to attend the unpaid Skills Introduction Day on Friday 3rd May
  • Understand this may lead to be selected for a longer-term placement beginning in June for 6 weeks.
  • You must live in the Greater Manchester area.

APPLICATIONS CLOSE AT 12.00PM MIDDAY ON WEDNESDAY 1ST MAY 2024
