At Screen Manchester we are proud to support the launch of the Manchester 48 Hour Film Project – a thrilling, fast-paced competition challenging filmmakers to write, shoot, and edit a short film in just 48 hours.

For the first time ever, this global initiative is landing in Manchester – giving local talent the chance to shine on an international stage.

Whether you’re an emerging creator, a student, or a seasoned professional, this is your opportunity to collaborate, create, and compete against the clock.

What’s at stake?

  • From Dream to Screen – see your completed film premiere in Cinema at Vue.
  • Stand a chance to win awards in multiple categories including Best Scriptwriting, Best Cinematography, Best Directing, Best Acting and of course the coveted title of Best Film of Manchester for 2025.
  • The winning film will advance and be invited to Filmapalooza in 2026 taking place is Lisbon (the global 48 festival for winning films across the globe)
  • Stand a chance to be handpicked to screen at Cannes Short Film Corner 2026
  • And… an incredible opportunity with Raindance Film Festival: The Executive Director of Raindance will serve as a judge for MCR 48. They’ll personally hand-pick one or two standout films to screen at the prestigious Raindance Film Festival in London, June 2025. This is a rare and exclusive chance for Northern talent to be spotlighted at one of the most renowned indie film festivals in the world.
