Introducing Coronation Street Trainee: Larry Shobajo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Screen Manchester & ITV Academy trainee Larry Shobajo who, in the below clip, shares a day in his life on the set of legendary ‘Manchester born and bred’ drama, Coronation Street.

Larry came to us hoping to train as an Assistant Director recognising that the best training out there can be gained directly on set. Larry’s career ambition is to be an Assistant Director in the Television Industry and realised that to achieve this he would require to follow a path through the ranks starting as a trainee AD before graduating to becoming a 3rd and eventually, further down the line becoming a 1st.

Where better to start this journey than on one of the busiest sets to be found anywhere in the UK? For almost 65 years the fictional district of Weatherfield and its residents have kept viewers gripped. Larry can now add his impressive new credit to his CV!

Larry came to us with some entry level TV production experience gained whilst working at Media City based DOCK 10. This involved setting up equipment and operating video and sound-to-film content.

His passion for film also recommended Larry to us. He had already directed short films. He was perfect for the Coronation Street placement as he arrived with some know-how of shooting and the importance of lighting a scene very quickly within a short time scale working to increasingly tight deadlines. All part of a day on the cobbles!

Here he tells the story of a typical day in typically creative “Larry style”.
