Anyone driving along Oldham Road towards Newton Heath will have seen The Sharp Project which was the onetime home of the Sharp Electronics Plant – a hub of creativity which closed down leaving the site empty and under threat of demolition.
Thanks to a small and dedicated team who turned this apparent negative into a positive The Sharp Project rose from the metaphorical ashes of the old Factory and has, for the last 15 years, become one of Manchester’s principle hubs of creativity, most specifically in the digital, tech and broadcast sectors.
Yes – Broadcast! Few of those traveling past The Sharp Project by car, bus or tram will realise just how much of the TV they enjoy has been created within its walls. That’s why we focus on The Sharp Project as February’s Facility of the Month.
The building is a phenomenal resource easily reached from all key transport hubs. There exists approximately 50,000 sq ft of space comprising four production stages and four green screen studios which range from 453 sq ft to 28,000 sq ft for film, television, commercial and green screen production, These are equipped with 3 phase power.
The production spaces have been designed to meet the needs of any production company. There is 24/7 access, easy load-in points and a vehicle-sized goods lift to stage 4.
The production space can be hired in conjunction with a suite of backstage facilities including dressing rooms, make up, wardrobes, green room and production offices.
The experienced team from Sharp Project is on hand to ensure everything runs smoothly and efficiently from rig to de-rig. Detailed quotations are available on application and the team will work with clients to find the best and most cost efficient solutions.
The Sharp Project has already hosted and facilitated a large amount of productions, ranging from major network television series such as After The Flood, The Bay, Brassic, Fresh Meat, That Day We Sang and Mount Pleasant through to green screen commercials for amongst others Nike and Virgin Bingo as well as considerable digital output.
At Screen Manchester we work closely with the Sharp Project team making sure that the City beyond the building is opened to every production further extending the offering made by this phenomenal facility.
